Outdoor gym equipment for public spaces

Outdoor gym equipment for public spaces : notre sélection professionnelle

Outdoor gym equipment is fitness apparatus installed permanently in the open air, in public parks, residential developments, schools and municipal sports areas. The machines are built in 316L stainless steel or in galvanised steel with anti corrosion coating, and they are certified to EN 16630, the European standard for permanently installed outdoor fitness equipment. The range covers resistance stations, outdoor cardio units and mobility apparatus, all designed for free public access with minimal maintenance. Light In Fitness designs, supplies and installs these projects for local authorities, town councils, campsites and private sites.

What is included in this range

Resistance stations reproduce indoor movements outdoors: outdoor chest press, lat pulldown, leg press, biceps curl, shoulder press and multi exercise stations. Outdoor cardio units cover cross trainer, stepper, walker and surfer type modules that work on body weight and momentum rather than adjustable loads. Mobility and coordination apparatus covers shoulder wheels, waist twisters, parallel bars and balance elements. Combined modules group several exercises on one frame, which is the efficient answer when the available footprint is limited. For a full site, this range is normally combined with street workout rigs, an outdoor fitness trail and outdoor sports flooring.

Choosing the material and the finish

Galvanised steel with an epoxy or powder coated finish covers the majority of inland installations and remains the rational choice on cost. Stainless steel 316L becomes necessary in saline atmospheres, in permanently humid environments and wherever the appearance has to stay intact over many years, because its molybdenum content resists chloride corrosion that 304 grade does not.

Site context Recommended material Main reason
Inland park, town centre, school Galvanised steel, coated Best cost to durability ratio
Coastal site, less than 2 km from the sea Stainless steel 316L Chloride corrosion resistance
Poolside, spa surrounds, thermal areas Stainless steel 316L Permanent humidity and chlorinated air
High visibility premium project Stainless steel 316L Appearance retained without heavy maintenance
Site exposed to graffiti and impact Stainless steel 316L or reinforced galvanised Easier cleaning, no coating to repair

Standards and public procurement

Freely accessible outdoor fitness equipment falls under EN 16630, which defines safety requirements, protection zones around each station and the maintenance plan the operator has to run. Where a project also declares play use, EN 1176 applies to the equipment and EN 1177 to the surfacing. ASTM F3101 certification is available as an option on part of the range for projects that call for it. Technical sheets, declarations of conformity and test reports are supplied with the offer, so the tender file is complete from the outset.

Installation and maintenance

Machines are anchored in concrete footings or on ground plates depending on the model and the sub base. Standard delivery covers France, Belgium, Switzerland and Luxembourg, export is priced per project, and stocked references ship in 5 to 10 working days. Maintenance is limited to periodic visual inspection, checking fixings and cleaning; stainless steel needs no coating repair. Warranty runs from 2 to 5 years depending on the range, with extensions available on steel structures.

Frequently asked questions

How many stations should be installed?

The figure comes from the available area and the expected number of simultaneous users, not from a fixed ratio. Each station carries a safety zone that has to be added to its own footprint, so a compact site with six well chosen stations often works better than a crowded site with twelve. We size this on the layout drawing before quoting.

Does an outdoor gym need special surfacing?

Body weight resistance stations at ground level can be installed on grass or on a stabilised surface. As soon as there is a raised element with a fall height, impact absorbing surfacing is required, and outdoor rated rubber tiles or bonded rubber are the usual answers. Drainage of the sub base determines how long any outdoor surface lasts.

Is the equipment resistant to vandalism?

The range uses closed profiles, concealed or tamper resistant fixings and no exposed cables, which removes the most common targets. Stainless steel 316L has a further advantage in exposed locations because paint cannot be scratched off and graffiti can be cleaned without refinishing.

Send us the site plan, the surrounding environment and the intended user profile, and we will return a station list with a layout drawing and prices. Request a quotation for a reply within 24 working hours.
