The choice of version is a project decision, not a detail, because it changes the surfacing budget.

Walkers and outdoor cross trainers provide cardio work with no ground impact, using the child’s own body weight and momentum rather than adjustable resistance. Shoulder wheels and mobility apparatus develop shoulder and trunk mobility on a very small footprint, which makes them useful in narrow school yards. Balance, coordination and body weight strength units cover core work, balance beams and suspended movement, and are the ones children return to most often. Units are built in galvanised steel with anti corrosion coating, or in 316L stainless steel for coastal and humid sites.

A children’s fitness area is rarely equipment alone. Impact absorbing surfacing is specified from the free height of fall of the highest usable element, and outdoor rated formulations are required for permanent exposure: see rubber gym flooring tiles. Modular multi sports courts and playground equipment are frequently ordered in the same project so the whole area is delivered as one scheme. Standards, warranty and maintenance

Technical sheets, declarations of conformity and test reports are supplied with the offer, which is what a school or municipal tender file requires. Maintenance consists of routine visual inspection, checking fixings and keeping safety zones clear, plus an annual main inspection on declared play areas. The range is generally designed for primary school age upwards, with the exact age range stated on each product sheet. Younger children need play equipment rather than fitness apparatus, because reach and grip dimensions differ. Where a site serves both age groups, zoning the area is more effective than trying to find units that suit everyone.

Do children’s fitness units need impact absorbing surfacing?

It depends on the declared use and on the free height of fall. A ground level walker or shoulder wheel installed as a fitness trail station can sit on a stabilised surface. As soon as the area is declared a playground under EN 1176, or as soon as a unit has a significant fall height, surfacing to EN 1177 is required.

Can this equipment be installed in a school yard?

Yes, and schools are one of the main uses. The constraints are the available footprint once safety zones are added, the surfacing under any raised element, and supervision during break times. We size the safety zones on the layout drawing before quoting so the yard remains usable for other activities.
