Description
The Pendulum and Jumper is a two station outdoor exercise unit designed for children and teenagers over 140 cm tall. Two stations on one frame is a deliberate choice: children play in pairs, and a single station in a public space quickly becomes a queue rather than an activity. Both stations work the hip muscles, support the mobility of the hip joints and the lumbar spine, train the sense of balance and engage the abdominal and back muscles.
On the Pendulum, the child grips the handles firmly, places both feet on the footplates and swings the legs right and left in a pendulum motion. On the Jumper, the same start position is used and the legs are extended and then brought slowly back together. Both movements are simple enough to be understood without instruction, which is what an unsupervised playground station requires.

Planning a children’s outdoor gym
Children’s outdoor fitness equipment works best as a companion to an adult outdoor gym rather than as an isolated area. Placing scaled equipment next to the adult circuit lets families train at the same time, gives children a safe way to try what the adults are doing, and builds the habit of using the equipment that municipalities are usually trying to encourage in the first place. The 140 cm minimum height is what defines the age range in practice, so signage should state it clearly.
Each station needs an obstacle free zone around the moving legs, and the surfacing beneath and around the unit should be impact attenuating and dimensioned to the free fall height. Anchoring is into concrete foundations sized to the ground conditions. Our team can prepare a layout study for the site as part of the quotation, positioning the children’s stations relative to the adult circuit, the circulation routes and any seating for accompanying adults.
Frequently asked questions
What age is the equipment for?
It is specified by height rather than by age: users must be at least 140 cm tall, which in practice covers older children and teenagers. Smaller children should use equipment scaled to them.
Can it be combined with other children’s stations?
Yes. The range includes a seated and standing twister, a bike and stepper unit and children’s ninja structures, so a scaled circuit can be built alongside the adult outdoor gym.
Will it withstand the winter?
The equipment is built to be robust, reliable and damage resistant, and is designed for our climatic conditions. Annual inspection of anchors, fixings and moving parts is the recommended maintenance, and steel structures carry a 20 year warranty.
