Outdoor timber saunas for hotels and gardens

An outdoor sauna is a self-contained timber cabin built to stand permanently outside, which makes it the fastest way to add a wellness offer without altering the building. Hotels, campsites, wellness centres and private gardens use them precisely because the installation is a groundworks and connection job rather than a construction project.

The two models

Barrel saunas in the Scandinavian style heat quickly and offer strong value, while cabin formats in solid, thermally modified timber prioritise durability under weather exposure. In both cases the timber specification is the durability question: an outdoor cabin lives with rain, frost and UV all year, and the wood is what fails first when it is under specified.

Siting needs a level, drained base and an electrical supply sized to the heater. For a hotel or campsite, plan the walking route from changing facilities as part of the design, since an outdoor sauna that is awkward to reach in a bathrobe gets very little use.
