Floor level cage or podium cage

A floor level cage is a training tool. Athletes step straight in, coaching is done from the perimeter, and the structure asks the least of the room. A podium cage is a presentation tool. The fighting surface is raised, the audience sees the bout without tiered seating, and access is by a staircase. Clubs that never host events rarely need the podium; clubs that run galas struggle without it.

Available sizes

Four standard formats are supplied, from 4 by 4 m to 7 by 7 m, in both floor level and podium versions. Choose on the usable fighting surface, but size the room on the footprint plus a clear perimeter. A cage pushed against a wall is a safety problem and a coaching problem.

What actually drives the quotation

Five items are worth settling before you ask for a price, because each of them moves the figure.

The floor under the cage. The structure does not replace a surface. Depending on the discipline you will need tatami mats, an impact absorbing rubber system or a technical sprung deck. We quote the two together or separately.

The perimeter clearance. It governs safety, coaching position and circulation, and it is systematically underestimated on first drawings. Add the staircase footprint on a podium version.

The free height. Check it before ordering a podium cage, adding the deck height to the fence height and leaving margin for lighting and any ceiling services.

The assembly. We can install on site or supply the structure with its instructions for assembly by your own team.

The bespoke element. Non standard dimensions, imposed colours, club or authority branding: custom manufacture is part of what we do rather than an exception, and it is usually what a written tender specification requires.

Boxing rings alongside the cage

Many clubs run both disciplines. A boxing ring is a different structure with its own deck, ropes, corner posts and padding, and it occupies more floor than its nominal size because of the apron. Where a hall has to serve both, the practical question is whether the room can carry two permanent structures or whether a single two in one cage plus a demountable ring makes better use of the space and the budget.

Frequently asked questions

Does a club need a floor level cage or a podium cage?

For daily training, a floor level cage is sufficient and costs less at the same size. The podium becomes justified as soon as the club hosts galas or opens bouts to an audience, because it makes the fight visible without tiered seating.

How much floor area should be reserved in the hall?

More than the cage dimension. Add a clear perimeter for circulation and safety on every side, and on a podium version add the footprint of the access staircase. Plan the perimeter on the drawing before you commit to a format.

Is the flooring supplied with the cage?

No. The surface is quoted separately because it depends on the discipline and on the existing subfloor. We supply tatami mats, impact absorbing tiles and technical decks, and we can price the whole package.

Can you manufacture a non standard size?

Yes. The four listed formats are the most requested, but bespoke manufacture is available on dimensions, colours and branding, which is the usual route for public tenders and for rooms with an awkward shape.

Do you carry out the assembly on site?

Yes, assembly can be included in the quotation. It can equally be handled by your own team, as the structure is delivered with its assembly instructions.
