Playground roundabouts and rotating play equipment
Playground roundabouts and rotating play equipment : notre sélection professionnelle
Roundabouts give a playground the one sensation that climbing frames and swings cannot: rotation, driven by the children themselves. The range covers ten models, including the classic platform roundabout, a disc version with a non slip surface, a two seat Duo, a compact rocket model and units sized for younger children. All run on bearings specified for outdoor service and free public access.
Which roundabout for which site
Platform models carry several children standing and are the usual choice for a municipal park. Disc models sit closer to the ground and are easier to board, which helps on sites with mixed ages. Two seat and compact versions are chosen where the footprint is tight, for example a campsite or a residential courtyard. Because rotating equipment carries its own safety zone rules under EN 1176, the clear area around the unit is often larger than users expect and should be checked before the plot layout is fixed.
Standards, surfacing and maintenance
The ten models answer EN 1176, and impact attenuating surfacing to EN 1177 is specified over the safety zone. Rotating equipment concentrates wear on the bearing and the central column, so inspection of those points is part of the periodic routine. Spare parts are available after installation.
| Model type | Boarding | Footprint |
|---|---|---|
| Platform roundabout | Standing, several users | Largest of the range |
| Disc with non slip surface | Low, easy step on | Medium |
| Duo two seat | Seated | Compact |
| Rocket model | Seated or standing | Compact |
| Young children models | Seated, low | Small |
Frequently asked questions
How much clear space does a roundabout need?
The safety zone is specific to rotating equipment and is shown on the layout plan supplied with the quotation.
Can a roundabout be added to an existing playground?
Yes, provided the surfacing can be extended over the new safety zone. We check that point before quoting.
What maintenance is involved?
Periodic inspection of the bearing, fixings and surface, in line with the operating routine for EN 1176 equipment.
