Description
Small neighbourhood play areas are usually short of two things at once: money and ground. This compact roundabout answers both. It is a single column of 114.3 mm steel with a handle at 1.45 m and a sealed bearing — no platform, no benches, no moving panels — which keeps the purchase price, the foundation works and the ongoing inspection burden as low as a rotating item can go.
Rotation on a small budget
- Handle set at 1.45 m, higher than our spinning top version, so the user leans out against the rotation: a more physical action that suits primary-age children.
- One foundation, one bearing, one handle. Nothing to reupholster, repaint annually or replace as a set.
- Sealed maintenance-free rotation, which matters most on sites visited by a contractor twice a year rather than by an in-house team weekly.
- Adds a genuinely different type of play to an existing playground that already has climbing and swinging, without a full redesign.
Materials and finish
Steel tubes are hot-dip galvanised and finished in structured acrylic paint, over a B30 concrete foundation 0.8 m deep. The specification is deliberately plain, and that is its strength on an open-access site: there are no plastic panels to be levered off and no fixings that reward a screwdriver.
Space requirement
The unit occupies 0.6 by 0.6 m and needs a clear circle of 6.6 m diameter. The free height of fall is 0.52 m. Check that figure against your existing surfacing before you assume the item can be dropped into a gap: at just over half a metre it sits close to the threshold at which EN 1176 requires an impact-attenuating surface. Alternative formats are shown in our playground roundabouts range.

Frequently asked questions
How does this differ from the spinning top version?
Same column and bearing, different handle height and therefore a different action: 1.45 m here against 1.15 m, and a free height of fall of 0.52 m against 0.2 m. The taller version is more physical and better suited to primary-age children; the lower one is gentler and easier to surface for.
Can it be added to an existing play area?
Often yes, but only if a 6.6 m circle can be cleared and the surfacing suits a 0.52 m fall height. We check both against your layout before quoting rather than after installation.
How vandal-resistant is it?
There are no removable panels and no exposed plastic. Galvanised steel under a structured coating tolerates graffiti removal, and the bearing is enclosed within the column.
Send us a dimensioned plan of the space and details of the existing surface, and we will confirm the fit and return a costed proposal within 24 business hours.
