Description
Rotating play usually costs a lot of ground. This rocket-shaped roundabout does not: the unit itself occupies 0.78 by 0.78 m and needs a safety circle of 4.8 m, the smallest of any rotating item we supply. Children stand on the anti-slip deck, hold the central mast and spin, so the play happens vertically rather than across a wide platform. For a pocket park, a courtyard between blocks or a residual corner of a school site, that difference decides whether a roundabout is possible at all.
Rotation in the smallest possible circle
- Footprint of 0.78 by 0.78 m and a 4.8 m safety circle, against 5.56 m for a flat disc of comparable capacity.
- Standing use around a 1.46 m mast: children lean out against the rotation, which is physically more demanding than sitting on a disc.
- Deck in 18 mm anti-slip HDPE, warm underfoot and grippy when wet.
- Sealed maintenance-free bearing, so the only routine task is a visual check of the deck fixings.
- A rocket silhouette that gives a small, otherwise plain play space a focal point.
Materials and finish
The structure is hot-dip galvanised steel finished with structured acrylic paint; the deck is 18 mm anti-slip HDPE; the foundation is B30 concrete at 0.5 m depth. The HDPE deck is the practical difference from the steel-decked disc: it does not conduct heat in summer, it is quieter under shoes, and it is the reason this item is often chosen for courtyards with flats overlooking them.
Siting and safety area
Allow a clear circle of 4.8 m diameter around the centre of rotation. The free height of fall is 0.6 m, so check the existing surfacing against that figure before assuming the item can be added without works. Foundation depth is 0.5 m.

Frequently asked questions
How many children can use it at once?
The deck is sized for standing users gripping the central mast, typically two at a time. It is a turn-taking item rather than a group platform, which suits small sites where a crowd would be a problem in itself.
Is it suitable for a child of three?
It is specified from three years, but a three-year-old will use it slowly and with a hand held. Children of seven and above drive it hard, which is the load case the bearing is sized for.
What surfacing does the 0.6 m fall height require?
At 0.6 m the item sits exactly at the threshold where EN 1176 calls for an impact-attenuating surface. In practice we specify a tested surface across the 4.8 m circle so there is no ambiguity at inspection.
Tell us the diameter you can clear and the surfacing in place, and we will confirm the fit and return a costed proposal within 24 business hours.
