Professional ski ergometers

Professional ski ergometers : notre sélection professionnelle

The professional ski ergometer is an air resistance cardio machine inspired by nordic skiing, developing upper body power, endurance and strength while also engaging the legs. It loads shoulders, lats, biceps, triceps, abdominals and trunk in a standing double pole action, which makes it one of the few cardio stations that trains the upper body under real cardiovascular load. It is a standard fixture in gyms, CrossFit boxes and Hyrox oriented facilities.

Why a ski ergometer belongs in a commercial facility

It fills a gap on a cardio floor: treadmills, bikes and cross trainers all work the legs, and the rower is the only other station that loads the upper body significantly. Air resistance self regulates with effort, so a beginner and a trained athlete use the same machine without adjustment, and the performance monitor reports the work actually done. The standing position also means the machine occupies a small floor area, though it needs clear height above the user.

Point Ski ergometer
Muscle emphasis Shoulders, lats, arms, trunk, with leg drive
Resistance Air, self regulating with effort
Floor area Small, vertical or wall mounted formats available
Height requirement Clear height above the user for the pull
Typical programming Intervals, WODs, Hyrox formats, circuits

Installation and maintenance

Check the clear height at the installation position, since the handles start above head height. Wall mounted and free standing formats exist, and the wall version needs a structural fixing point. Air resistance machines are louder than magnetic ones by design, which should be checked where the area adjoins quiet spaces. Maintenance is limited to cleaning, checking the cord or strap and inspecting the fan housing. Indoor equipment falls under EN 957, published as EN ISO 20957. See also Xebex air cardio.

Frequently asked questions

Is a ski ergometer suitable for general club members?

Yes, because air resistance adapts to the effort applied, so an untrained user simply produces less power rather than being unable to use the machine. The technique is easy to learn and instruction labelling helps in unsupervised facilities. It is nonetheless more demanding on the upper body than a bike, so it is normally an addition to a cardio floor rather than a replacement.

Free standing or wall mounted?

Wall mounted saves floor area and suits functional zones where every square metre counts, provided a suitable structural wall is available at the right height. Free standing units can be repositioned and suit rooms that are reconfigured for classes. Send us the room details and we will confirm which format fits.

Tell us your available area and clear height, and we will return a ski ergometer specification with prices. Request a quotation for a reply within 24 working hours.
