Description
The duo roundabout does something the classic disc cannot: it puts two children face to face and makes the ride depend on both of them. The elongated 2.52 m body turns on a set of silent rollers, and the rhythm has to be found together. It is the rotating item to choose when the brief mentions cooperation, social play or children who need a reason to interact rather than simply share a platform.
Cooperative play, and quiet
- Two positions on an elongated body, so the item is used as a pair rather than as a queue.
- Silent, maintenance-free roller set. On a residential scheme this is not a detail: a squealing roundabout under a bedroom window generates complaints that end with the item being removed.
- Narrow in plan at 0.54 m, so the item threads into linear spaces between paths and planting where a 5.5 m circle would never fit.
- Milled HPL surface panels of at least 6 mm, hard-wearing and colourfast, over an 18 mm anti-slip HDPE running surface.
Materials and finish
- Structure in hot-dip galvanised steel with structured acrylic paint.
- Running surface in 18 mm anti-slip HDPE panel.
- Surface elements in milled HPL panel, 6 mm minimum thickness.
- Silent maintenance-free roller assembly.
- B30 concrete foundation, 0.35 m deep.
Siting and safety area
The minimum impact area is 5.0 by 3.5 m — rectangular rather than circular, which is what makes this item fit sites a disc roundabout cannot. The free height of fall is 0.7 m, so an impact-attenuating surface tested for that height is required across the area. Foundation depth is only 0.35 m. Where the whole area is being resurfaced, see our notes on playground surfacing.

Frequently asked questions
Can one child use it alone?
Yes, but the item is designed around two. Single use is slower and less rewarding, which is precisely the mechanism that pushes children to find a partner.
How noisy is it compared with a standard roundabout?
The roller set is specified as silent and requires no lubrication, so there is no metal-on-metal squeal as grease dries out. That is the noise that generates complaints on housing schemes, and it is designed out rather than maintained away.
Does HPL fade outdoors?
High pressure laminate is a compressed, resin-bonded panel with the decor fused into the surface. It holds colour outdoors far better than a printed or painted panel and takes graffiti removal without ghosting.
