Description

The Bodytone FBC12 is a back extension bench targeting the lower back, glutes and hamstrings. The user is supported at the hips and ankles and works the trunk through flexion and extension against gravity, with a plate or weight disc held at the chest for progression.

The posterior chain gap

Most commercial gym floors are well equipped for the front of the body and thin on the back of it. That imbalance shows up in members who sit all day: hip flexors short, glutes inactive, lumbar erectors untrained. A back extension bench is the cheapest way to close the gap, and it needs no stack, no cables and no maintenance beyond upholstery checks.

Specification and placement

  • Hip pad and ankle restraint fixing the pivot at the hip.
  • Trains lower back, glutes and hamstrings in one movement.
  • Footprint 125 x 105 cm, height 71 cm, net weight 53 kg.
  • No weight stack; progression is by holding a plate or disc.

The near-square 125 x 105 cm footprint makes the FBC12 easy to place in a stretching or functional area, where members will use it as part of a warm-up rather than queueing for it in the machine line.

Coaching the movement

The most common error on a back extension is hyperextending at the top of the range, which shifts load onto the lumbar spine rather than through the glutes and hamstrings. Brief instructors to coach the finish position as a straight line from head to heel, and to introduce the movement without added load. A short pictogram or wall card at the station is usually enough to keep unsupervised users within the intended range.

Frequently asked questions

Is it suitable for members with a history of back pain?

It is general fitness equipment, not a medical device. Members returning from a back problem should be screened by a qualified professional before using it, and started with a short range.

Where should it sit on the floor plan?

Near the functional or stretching zone rather than in the selectorised line. It is most used as part of a warm-up or a finisher, so it should not block a machine circuit.

What are the delivery and installation lead times?

Allow 3 to 6 weeks from order to commissioning in mainland France, 4 to 6 weeks in Belgium and 5 to 7 weeks in Switzerland.
