Description
The O’Live Pro Series Sissy Squat is a commercial quadriceps isolation station rated for 200 kg, measuring 98 x 65 x 48 cm and weighing 48 kg, CE marked to EN 20957. It locks the lower leg in place so the knees travel forward under control, isolating the quadriceps in a way no free squat can.
Why gyms add a dedicated sissy squat station
The sissy squat is the most direct bodyweight quadriceps exercise there is, but performed free-standing it is unstable and hard to teach. A dedicated station anchors the ankles and calves, letting members lean back and descend safely through a full range. The same unit also supports glute and core work, and can serve as an anchored base for sit-up variations, a lot of training from half a square metre of floor.

Programming the sissy squat station
Coaches use the station in three main patterns: as a finisher after compound leg work, two or three high-repetition sets when the quadriceps are pre-fatigued; as a skill progression, building range gradually from quarter to full descents over weeks; and as anchored core work, using the fixed leg position for controlled sit-back movements. The height-adjustable support lets one station serve every member morphology in a class rotation without tools. As with any deep-knee-flexion exercise, range should build progressively, the anchored position makes that easy to control, which is precisely why gyms prefer the station to free-standing attempts.
Frequently asked questions
Is the sissy squat suitable for beginners?
Yes, with progression. The anchored position makes the movement far more controllable than a free-standing sissy squat: beginners start with partial range and a hand support, while advanced users add weight plates or resistance bands for loaded sets.
What else can the station be used for?
Anchored sit-ups and decline core work, glute bridges with the calves fixed, and stretching of the quadriceps and hip flexors. Many gyms position it in the functional zone rather than with the machines.
How does it hold up in commercial use?
The 3 mm oval-tube steel frame, 200 kg rating and antibacterial upholstery are specified for daily club traffic, and the epoxy powder finish protects the frame in high-turnover areas.
