Description
The TRAINER R08A single twister measures 78.5 x 74 x 140 cm, weighs 45 kg and needs a safety zone of 379 x 374 cm. It is the free-standing single-user model in the OutdoorStart range, and it is one of the few stations on a public trail that works mobility rather than strength.
Rotation for the hips and the lower back
Standing on the rotating platform and holding the handles, the user turns the trunk from side to side while the feet follow the platform. The movement mobilises the hip joints and the lumbar spine through a controlled range, contracts the abdominal wall at each end of the arc, and opens the chest as the shoulders rotate. It is an unusual combination on outdoor equipment: a stretching station that also produces genuine abdominal work.
- Strengthens the abdominal muscles
- Encourages mobility in the hips and lumbar spine
- Stretches the pectorals
- Difficulty rating: easy, maximum user weight 150 kg
Materials and compliance
The frame is high-grade steel, shot-blasted and galvanised, finished with a double layer of polyester paint. The rotating platform and the handles are UV-resistant HDPE panel, which keeps its grip when wet and does not become hot to the touch in summer. The station complies with EN 16630:2015-06 and has been tested and certified by TUV Rheinland. Colourways are yellow (RAL 1018/7004), graphite (RAL 7016/9006), orange (RAL 2000/9006) and lime (RAL 6018/9006), with other shades on request.

Placing it on a circuit
The twister works best at the end of a trail, as a cool-down and mobility station, or at the start as part of a warm-up sequence. It is popular with older users and with anyone using the park during a working day, which is worth remembering when deciding how visible and how accessible to make it.
Frequently asked questions
Is it the same as the surfer?
No. The surfer swings the hips laterally with the shoulders staying level; the twister rotates the trunk around the vertical axis. Different planes, different muscles, and many trails install both.
How does the single version differ from the double?
Capacity only. The single station serves one user; the double allows two people to train together, which suits busy sites and school groups rotating through stations.
Does the platform need maintenance?
Periodic inspection of the pivot housing and the fixings under the EN 16630 routine. The HDPE platform needs cleaning rather than treatment, and the galvanised and painted frame is not on a repainting schedule.
