Description
The TRAINER R21A is a single-position outdoor stepper, free-standing, measuring 80 x 74 x 170 cm and weighing around 55 kg. It requires a safety zone of 380 x 374 cm and has non-slip aluminium steps. Certified to EN 16630:2015-06 by TUV Rheinland, it is supplied by Light In Fitness at 1,632 EUR excluding VAT.
A movement everybody already knows
Nobody needs to be taught to climb stairs. That is the whole design argument for a stepper in a public fitness area: the movement is recognised on sight, performed correctly on the first attempt, and produces genuine work in the legs and glutes within thirty seconds. The step pattern strengthens the thighs and hips, loads the gluteal muscles and engages the abdominal wall to keep the trunk upright, all against body weight alone.
- Strengthens the leg and gluteal muscles
- Works the hips and thighs, engages the abdominals
- Difficulty rated easy, suitable for daily use
- Maximum user weight 150 kg, minimum user height 140 cm
Aluminium steps, and why they matter
The step surface is the part of any outdoor stepper that determines whether it is usable in the rain. Non-slip aluminium treads drain, do not hold water, do not rot as timber does and do not develop the polished surface that painted steel acquires after a season of shoe traffic. On a station used with wet shoes in an unsupervised park, that is a safety specification rather than a finish.

Frequently asked questions
Single or double stepper for a municipal site?
The single version suits linear trails, where stations are spread along a route and each is used by one person passing through. A double version is the better choice for a concentrated fitness area where queuing is likely, because leg cardio stations hold users longer than upper-body ones.
Is the resistance adjustable?
No, and that is by design. Open-access equipment under EN 16630 works against body mass, with intensity governed by cadence and duration. There is no setting for a user to get wrong and nothing for a maintenance team to calibrate.
What surfacing is needed underneath?
The 380 x 374 cm zone must be clear, and depending on the free height of fall determined for the site an impact-attenuating surface may be required. We confirm this on the layout drawing and can supply the surfacing with the equipment.
Light In Fitness supplies and installs outdoor fitness areas for councils, campsites, schools and residential developments, from a single station to a full circuit with signage and safety surfacing. See the TRAINER OutdoorStart stations or the equipment for councils pages. Send us your site plan and budget and we return a layout and a firm price.
