Two directions, one station

Converting between adduction and abduction is a matter of repositioning the pads: the same seat, the same stack, the same footprint. That is what allows a floor with limited space to cover both directions of hip work rather than choosing one, and it keeps the two movements loaded consistently so the ratio between them stays meaningful.

In adduction: the adductor group of the inner thigh, adductor magnus, longus and brevis, with gracilis and pectineus. In abduction: gluteus medius and minimus and tensor fasciae latae. The abductors in particular control pelvic position during single-leg stance, which links directly to knee tracking and to lower back comfort in runners.

Set-up

Set the starting width conservatively, especially in adduction where an over-wide start places the adductors under stretch before the set begins. Keep the back against the support, move under control and avoid letting the pads snap back at the end of a repetition. Progress the range before progressing the load.

Is a dual machine as good as two separate ones?

For most floors, yes. One frame, one stack and one footprint cover both directions. The limitation is throughput, since only one user can work at a time, so very large facilities sometimes specify separate adductor and abductor stations.

How quickly does it convert between the two movements?

Seconds, by repositioning the pads and the starting width. No tools are required, so a user can superset adduction and abduction without leaving the seat.
