Description
The Bodytone FH52 is a selectorised leg extension machine, the only exercise that isolates the quadriceps completely. Every other lower body movement recruits the hips and the posterior chain alongside the knee extensors; here the hip stays fixed against the back pad and the knee is the sole working joint. That isolation is what makes the station indispensable both to a strength programme and to knee reconditioning work. It is specified for commercial clubs, sports academies, physiotherapy practices, corporate gyms and hotel fitness rooms.

Placement in the leg zone and upkeep
The FH52 belongs next to a seated leg curl: the two are the agonist and antagonist pair for the knee, and coaches habitually programme them together. Placing them side by side shortens the circuit and lets one member of staff supervise both. The 135 x 132 cm base is close to square and the shin lever sweeps forward, so keep the front of the machine clear and do not point it into a walkway.
Height is 162 cm, which keeps sightlines open across the floor. Net weight is 253 kg and should be checked against permissible floor loading for any installation on an upper level, together with a survey of the delivery route.
Preventive maintenance covers the cable and pulleys, the lever pivot at the knee axis, the shin pad and back pad adjustments, and the selector pin. The range limiter and the seat back position are the two settings members change most often, so verify that they lock positively at each notch during servicing.
Stack configuration
The 107 kg standard stack extends to 134 kg. The quadriceps are a large muscle group and trained users progress quickly on this movement, so the extension is one of the more defensible options in the range for a club with a competitive or field sport membership. Hotels, corporate sites and clinical settings are well served by the standard stack, where the value lies in the low starting load and the 7 kg steps.
Frequently asked questions
Why is the leg extension considered a complete quadriceps isolation?
Because the hip angle is fixed by the seat and back pad, the only joint that moves is the knee. The load therefore falls entirely on the knee extensors, without the gluteal and hamstring contribution that a squat, a leg press or a hack squat produces.
Should the FH52 be paired with a leg curl?
In a commercial specification, yes. The leg extension trains the front of the thigh and the seated or prone leg curl trains the hamstrings; installing only one leaves an imbalance around the knee that coaches will have to work around.
Is the machine used for rehabilitation?
Guided knee extension with a low starting load and small increments is a standard tool in supervised knee reconditioning, which is why the model is specified by physiotherapy practices as well as by clubs. The protocol remains the practitioner’s decision.
