Description
The Ellipse Leg Extension is a knee extension machine for the quadriceps, with an adjustable seat, a contoured back support and Olympic plate loading. It measures 129 x 118 x 133.5 cm and weighs 130 kg. Light In Fitness supplies it at 1,650 EUR excluding VAT.
The only movement that isolates the quadriceps
Squats, presses and lunges all train the quadriceps, but always in company with the glutes and hamstrings, and always limited by whichever of the three fatigues first. Open-chain knee extension is the one pattern that loads the quadriceps alone, through their full range including the last thirty degrees of extension that closed-chain work barely reaches. That end range is exactly what matters after knee surgery and in patellar tendon programmes, which is why a leg extension station appears in almost every rehabilitation specification.
- Open-chain knee extension, quadriceps isolated
- Adjustable seat to align the knee axis with the machine pivot
- Smooth, naturally tracking movement path
- Adjustment points colour-coded in yellow
Alignment is what makes it work or hurt
The single setting that determines whether a leg extension is comfortable is the seat position, which places the axis of the knee on the axis of the lever. Set too far forward and the shin pad drags the knee; too far back and the load shifts onto the joint capsule. The Ellipse seat uses a quick spring adjustment so a coach can set it in a couple of seconds during induction, and the setting is repeatable between users.
Ellipse build standard
Pulleys are high-strength nylon, 105 x 20 mm, on sealed 6202RS bearings. The finish is a two-pass powder coating with a clear top coat, with frame and arm colours specified at order. Upholstery is polyurethane foam under synthetic leather; grip areas are aluminium. The back support is contoured to hold the pelvis in place so the user does not slide forward as the load rises, which is the usual failure point on a cheap leg extension.

Frequently asked questions
Is the leg extension safe for members with knee problems?
Used with a controlled tempo, a correctly set seat and a sensible load, it is a standard tool in knee rehabilitation rather than a risk to it. What causes trouble is a heavy load swung through a full range on a badly aligned seat. Set the machine during induction and the movement is one of the most controllable on the floor.
How much floor space should be allowed?
The frame occupies 129 x 118 cm. Allow access at the front for the user to sit down and at one side for loading, so budget around 3 m2 including circulation.
Which machine should be installed alongside it?
A seated or prone leg curl. Training knee extension without matching hamstring work builds a strength ratio that is itself a documented injury risk, and clubs that install one usually install both from the same range so the adjustment logic is identical.
Light In Fitness supplies complete strength floors to gyms, hotels, corporate facilities, rehabilitation centres and armed forces sites. See the full strength training machines catalogue, or the plates and bumpers range to load it. Send us your floor plan and we return a machine list, a scaled layout and a firm price.
