Description
The Ellipse Shoulder Press is an Olympic plate-loaded overhead pressing machine with a supported back and an adjustable seat. It measures 129 x 126 x 148.5 cm and weighs 140 kg. Light In Fitness supplies it at 1,650 EUR excluding VAT.
Overhead pressing, without the risk
Pressing a load above the head is the movement where technique failures are least forgiving and where a dropped weight is most dangerous. A guided station removes both problems: the path is fixed, the back is supported through the press, and a failed repetition returns to the stop rather than onto the user. It is the single most convincing reason to put a shoulder press machine on a floor that has unsupervised opening hours.
- Guided overhead press, plate-loaded on an integrated disc support
- Supported backrest limiting lumbar extension under load
- Quick spring seat adjustment to set the start position
- Trains the deltoids, upper trapezius and triceps
What the back support actually does
The most common fault in a standing overhead press is arching the lower back to get under the bar, which converts a shoulder exercise into a lumbar one. A fixed backrest makes that impossible: the pelvis is held, so the range of motion available is the range the shoulder can genuinely produce. Users with limited overhead mobility discover this immediately, which is uncomfortable but useful, and it is why the machine is a standard fixture in physical preparation rooms.
Ellipse build standard
Pulleys are high-strength nylon, 105 x 20 mm, on sealed 6202RS bearings. Finish is a two-pass powder coating with a clear top coat, colours specified at order for the frame and the arms separately. Upholstery is polyurethane foam under synthetic leather. Grip and foot support surfaces are aluminium, and all adjustments are marked in yellow so a first-time user can set the machine without help.

Frequently asked questions
Does it need much ceiling height?
The machine itself is 148.5 cm tall and the movement stays within the frame, so a standard ceiling is sufficient. That is one of its advantages over a free overhead press, which needs clearance above the standing bar path.
Is it suitable for members with shoulder impingement?
That is a clinical question, and the answer depends on the individual. What the machine offers is a fixed path and a settable start height, so a range that avoids the painful arc can be prescribed and repeated exactly. Set it during assessment rather than leaving it to the member.
Which machines should sit next to it?
A lateral raise and a chest press, so the shoulder is trained in more than one plane. Grouping machines from the same range keeps the adjustment logic identical across the group, which cuts induction time noticeably.
