Description
The Bodytone FH55 is a selectorised prone leg curl on which the user lies face down, so the knee flexes with the hip extended. Lying down removes the trunk from the equation entirely: the pelvis is supported along its length, there is no seat back to push against and the semitendinosus and semimembranosus are isolated from the biceps femoris without the user being able to recruit the lower back. On a 118 x 144 cm base it is the most compact of the hamstring stations in the Forza FH range, which makes it a practical choice for smaller commercial gyms, hotel fitness rooms, sports clubs and rehabilitation facilities.

Access, footprint and cleaning
The prone format changes the way the station is used and therefore the way it is placed. A user climbs onto the pad from the side, so the machine needs a clear lateral approach rather than a corridor at the front, and it is worth avoiding a position immediately against a wall on the mounting side. The upper body rests forward of the frame, so allow for the length of a tall user beyond the 118 x 144 cm equipment footprint on the layout plan.
Because the whole torso is in contact with the pad, hygiene matters more here than on a seated station. Build the body pad into the daily cleaning round with a neutral cleaner, and provide towels or wipes nearby if the room is unsupervised. Net weight is 247 kg, lighter than the seated curl, which slightly widens the range of upper floor installations that are viable once floor loading has been verified.
Mechanical servicing covers the cable and pulleys, the knee axis pivot, the ankle roller position and the selector pin. Check that the ankle pad adjusts and locks correctly, since a badly set roller is the most common cause of discomfort on this movement.
Stack configuration
The standard stack is 107 kg with a 134 kg option and 7 kg increments throughout. Note that most users handle less on a prone curl than on a seated curl, because the extended hip position puts the hamstrings in a shorter starting position; a 107 kg stack is therefore sufficient on the great majority of projects.
Frequently asked questions
How does the prone curl differ from the seated curl?
The hip position. Lying face down keeps the hip extended, which changes hamstring length and shifts the strength curve; a seated curl flexes the hip and lengthens the hamstring at its origin. The muscles targeted are the same, but the loading is not interchangeable.
Is the prone position suitable for all members?
Not universally. Getting onto and off a prone pad is harder for older users and for anyone with limited mobility, which is why senior focused and clinical sites often prefer the seated version. Sports clubs with a young population have no such constraint.
How much space should I budget for the station?
The frame occupies 118 x 144 cm, but plan for the length of the user’s torso extending forward and for a lateral mounting approach. In practice that means treating it as a slightly longer footprint than the equipment dimensions suggest.
