Description
The Bodytone FBC09 is an olympic shoulder press station intended for barbell pressing to the front of the head and behind the neck. Because it is plate loaded rather than selectorised, the athlete controls the bar path and can programme the overhead press as a competition style lift, with the rack supports set to the height that suits the seat position. At 145 kg net and 200 kg maximum load it is dimensioned for commercial free weight areas, sports clubs, military and emergency service training rooms and premium hotel gyms with staffed hours.

Overhead pressing: space, supervision and upkeep
Overhead work raises the question the bench press does not: vertical clearance. The frame stands 186 cm tall, and the bar travels above that at lockout with a seated user, so measure the clear ceiling height at the intended position including any suspended ceiling or lighting track before confirming the order. This is the check that most often disqualifies a position for this reference.
The base is 148 x 180 cm and needs to be extended on the layout plan by plate loading space at both ends of the bar and by room for a coach or spotter beside the seat. Net weight is 145 kg, heavier than the olympic bench but far lighter than the selectorised machines, so it is stable in use without posing floor loading problems; still verify the frame sits level and the supports are seated correctly after any repositioning.
Servicing covers the rack supports and their locking pins, the frame fixings and welds, and the seat and back pad mountings. As with any plate loaded station, inspect more often than a selectorised machine because the frame absorbs impact when a bar is racked hard, and clean the upholstery with a neutral cleaner.
Frequently asked questions
Should members press behind the neck?
The station allows both positions, but pressing behind the neck demands good shoulder mobility and is normally reserved for coached athletes. In general fitness settings the front press is the default and the behind the neck option is a coaching decision.
How does it compare with the FH20 shoulder press?
The FH20 is a selectorised machine with a fixed bar path and a 107 kg stack changed by a pin, suited to unsupervised and mixed level use. The FBC09 is a free bar station accepting up to 200 kg of olympic plates, suited to trained athletes and staffed environments. Many clubs install both for different populations.
What ceiling height does an overhead press station need?
More than the 186 cm of the frame itself, since the bar finishes above head height. Measure the clear height at the exact position and confirm it before ordering rather than at delivery.
