Description
The TRAINER R11 is a free-standing outdoor elliptical trainer from the OutdoorStart range, measuring 135 x 62 x 158.5 cm and weighing 59 kg. It requires a safety zone of 435 x 362 cm. Certified to EN 16630:2015-06 by TUV Rheinland, it is supplied by Light In Fitness at 1,596 EUR excluding VAT.
Whole-body cardio in the open air
The elliptical path moves the legs through a long stride while the arms drive the handles in opposition, so the major muscle groups of both the lower and upper body work together. Heart rate rises quickly, the movement is continuous rather than repeated from a stop, and the foot never leaves the pedal, which means no impact through the ankle, knee or hip. It is the closest an outdoor circuit comes to a genuine indoor cardio machine.
- Trains the major muscle groups of the whole body
- Improves cardiovascular condition and motor coordination
- Zero-impact stride, suitable for users who cannot run
- Difficulty rated medium, maximum user weight 150 kg
Where to place it on a site
Cardio stations hold users for several minutes, unlike mobility stations that are used for thirty seconds. That has two consequences for the layout: put the elliptical where a queue will not block a path, and provide more than one cardio unit if the area is expected to be busy. On a linear trail the elliptical works well at the mid-point, where users have warmed up and have not yet finished.
Construction
High-grade steel, shot-blasted and hot-dip galvanised, then finished with a double layer of polyester powder coating. Handles and pedals are HDPE panels, resistant to UV and to impact, which matters on the surfaces that take the most contact and the most abuse. Standard colours are yellow (RAL 1018/7004), graphite (RAL 7016/9006), orange (RAL 2000/9006) and lime (RAL 6018/9006), with other RAL references quoted on request.

Frequently asked questions
Why is it rated medium rather than easy?
Because the movement requires coordination between the arms and legs and because it is sustained. A first-time user will manage it, but they will feel it within a minute, which is not true of a twister or a hand wheel. The rating is about effort, not about risk.
Does it need lubrication?
The pivots are sealed and are inspected rather than greased. The items to check on an elliptical are the pedal arm bearings and the anchorage, since this is one of the stations that receives the most cyclic loading.
Can it be installed on a slope?
The station itself must be level. Where the ground falls away, the foundation is stepped or the area is locally levelled, which is designed at the layout stage. A machine installed out of level will feel wrong and will wear unevenly.
