Description
The TRAINER Reverse Butterfly is a pylon mounted outdoor pulling station of 80 kg, certified to EN 16630:2015 and tested by TUV Rheinland. The arms open outwards and backwards against body weight resistance, which recruits the rear deltoid, the rhomboids and the middle trapezius. In a public fitness area that matters more than it sounds: these are the muscles that hold the shoulder blades back, and they are the ones most people neglect. Installed alongside a pushing station, the reverse butterfly gives a park circuit a genuine posture component.

The antagonist station in an outdoor circuit
Outdoor fitness areas are frequently specified around visible pushing movements, with pulling work reduced to a pull up bar that many visitors cannot use. The reverse butterfly closes that gap because the resistance is scaled by the user own body weight and posture rather than by a fixed load. Someone who cannot perform a single pull up can still complete a controlled set here, which broadens who actually uses the installation.
- Targets rear deltoid, rhomboids and middle trapezius
- Direct counterpart to the standard butterfly for balanced shoulder work
- Body weight resistance, no stack, no cable, no adjustment to be vandalised
- 92.8 x 104.9 cm envelope on a shared support pylon
- Accessible entry, useful for older visitors and desk based populations
Foundations, safety area and upkeep
The station fixes onto a support pylon or a load bearing wall. That pylon and its concrete foundation are not included in the station price and must appear separately on the quotation. Keep the 393 x 405 cm safety area free of benches, planters and path edges, and surface it in line with the free height of fall given in the installation drawing.
Construction is the standard TRAINER build: steel shot blasted, hot dip galvanised, then finished with two coats of UV stable polyester. The zinc layer under the paint is what carries corrosion protection, so surface marks are cosmetic. Maintenance consists of checking the pivot bushings and fixings, tightening where needed and logging the inspections required of the operator for publicly accessible equipment.
Frequently asked questions
How does it differ from the standard butterfly?
The movement runs in the opposite direction. The standard butterfly closes the arms and trains the chest and front shoulder; the reverse butterfly opens them and trains the upper back and rear shoulder. They are antagonists and are normally specified as a pair.
Why is it heavier than the standard butterfly?
At 80 kg the reverse version carries a heavier lever assembly and a different pivot arrangement for the pulling direction. The additional mass has no effect on the user, only on handling during installation.
Can it be installed against an existing wall?
Yes, provided the wall is load bearing and can be verified by the site engineer. Otherwise the station is mounted on a TRAINER pylon with its own foundation, which is the usual solution in open park settings.
