Description
The Etenon R8201 is a selectorised seated row with fully independent iso lateral arms and handles that rotate through 360 degrees during the pull. The rotating handles follow the natural rotation of the forearm, which improves latissimus dorsi activation and reduces the load on the wrist and the elbow compared with a fixed grip.
The machine targets back thickness and width: latissimus dorsi, teres major and minor, rhomboids, middle trapezius and infraspinatus, with the biceps brachii and the posterior deltoids as synergists. Neutral and pronated grips are available, each recruiting the back slightly differently, and a non slip central handle gives the non working arm a stable point of support during unilateral sets.
The chest support adjusts through five positions and holds the trunk during the movement. That separates the back work from lumbar bracing, allowing a larger range of motion without compensation from the lower back, which is what makes the machine usable in a supervised rehabilitation context as well as on a commercial gym floor. Independent arms allow unilateral work to correct left to right imbalance without a training partner.

Specifying a row machine for a commercial gym floor
At 253.5 kg the machine is a fixed installation. Plan the floor for the point load of the weight stack and allow circulation behind the seat for the pull through. The 2.5 kg micro loads matter more than the maximum stack in daily use: they let a member progress in steps small enough to keep good position, which is the difference between a machine that stays in the programme and one that is skipped.
Pneumatic seat adjustment shortens the set up between users, an argument on a busy floor at peak hours. Machines from the R8 range share the same upholstery and finish, so a floor equipped progressively over several budget years stays visually consistent.
Frequently asked questions
What does iso lateral mean here?
The two arms move independently, so each side is loaded separately. It allows unilateral sets and the correction of strength imbalances between right and left.
How much floor space is needed?
The machine footprint is 165 x 120 cm at 160.2 cm high. Add circulation space around it; the layout study confirms the spacing against your floor plan.
Can the load be increased in small steps?
Yes. Micro loads of 2.5 kg are supplied in addition to the plate increments, with a magnetic pin for selection.
