Description
The Etenon R8502 is a lying leg curl with a counterbalanced arm, so resistance at the start position is zero and the knee is protected from the first repetition. That is the specification detail that decides whether a hamstring machine can be used in rehabilitation or only in general training. A conventional leg curl loads the knee tendons at the point where they are least prepared for it; a counterbalanced lever does not.
The lying position gives the biceps femoris its maximum length through the movement, which is what produces a genuine stretch under load rather than a shortened range. With the hips flat against the bench there is nowhere for the pelvis to go, so the hamstrings do the work instead of the lower back assisting. Adjustments cover the roller position and inclination across five settings and a support pad adjustable through four positions, letting the end range tension be set to suit each user.
Load is selected by pin on a 100 kg column. The frame is welded steel with an epoxy powder coating, the bearings are sealed and the upholstery is dual density and perspiration resistant, all dimensioned for 10 to 14 hours of daily use in an intensive club. The machine weighs around 185 kg and is declared compliant with EN ISO 20957, with 24 months on parts and 10 years on the frame.

Hamstring work in a professional programme
Hamstring strength is the single most cited variable in soft tissue injury prevention, and the lying leg curl is how most facilities deliver it. Install it beside the R8501 leg extension so the quadriceps to hamstring pair sits together, and allow access along one side of the bench for users to climb on and off without stepping over the stack. Keep the head end clear of a wall, since that is the direction the user faces. Sports clubs and rehabilitation practices both specify the counterbalanced version rather than a standard one, because it allows loading to begin at effectively nothing and progress in controlled steps. Send us your floor plan and we will position the lower body group and confirm clearances at no cost before quotation.
Frequently asked questions
What does a counterbalanced arm do?
It mechanically offsets the weight of the lever so there is no resistance in the start position. The knee is loaded only once the movement is under way, which is why the machine suits beginners and rehabilitation protocols.
Why lying rather than seated or prone?
The lying position gives maximum hamstring length under load and fixes the pelvis, producing strict isolation. A seated leg curl works the muscle at a different hip angle and many facilities install both.
What adjustments are available?
Five roller positions with adjustable inclination and a support pad with four positions, which together set the tension at the end of the movement to each user’s preference.
