Description

The Bodytone FBC05 is a seated calf bench. The user sits with the thigh pad across the lower quadriceps and the forefoot on the platform, loading the calf through plantar flexion with the knee bent — the position that emphasises the soleus rather than the gastrocnemius.

Seated or standing: they are not the same exercise

A standing calf raise works the gastrocnemius, which crosses the knee. Bend the knee and that muscle slackens, leaving the soleus to do the work. The soleus is the endurance muscle of the lower leg and the one that matters most to runners, walkers and anyone rehabilitating an Achilles problem — and it is untrained by every standing variation. That is why a seated station is not a duplicate of a leg press calf position.

Specification

  • Thigh pad and forefoot platform for seated plantar flexion.
  • Maximum load 150 kg, plates included in the figure.
  • Footprint 143 x 56 cm — only 56 cm wide, one of the narrowest stations on the floor.
  • Height 81 cm, net weight 48 kg.
  • Plates are separate items, not part of the station.

Placement

The narrow footprint is the practical advantage: the FBC05 slots into gaps between larger machines that would otherwise be dead space. Allow room in front of the platform for the user to sit down and stand up, and place it within reach of a plate tree.

Programming notes

Seated calf work responds to volume and to time under tension rather than to maximal load, so the station is usually programmed with higher repetitions and a controlled tempo at the end of a lower-body session. That pattern also means it is occupied for longer per user than a pressing station, which is worth accounting for when deciding whether one unit is enough for your peak-hour attendance.

Frequently asked questions

Do we still need a standing calf station?

If the programme covers both heads of the calf, yes. The two positions train different muscles and most serious lower-body programmes include both.

How many plates should be kept at the station?

Enough to reach the 150 kg ceiling without carrying plates across the floor. A small plate tree beside the bench is the usual solution and can be quoted with it.

What are the delivery and installation lead times?

Allow 3 to 6 weeks from order to commissioning in mainland France, 4 to 6 weeks in Belgium and 5 to 7 weeks in Switzerland.
