Bodytone FBC03 Adjustable Bench

The Bodytone FBC03 is an adjustable bench for upper-body training. The backrest moves through a range of positions so that one unit covers flat, incline and decline pressing, seated shoulder work and supported dumbbell exercises.

One bench, several angles

Changing the backrest angle changes which part of the pectorals, deltoids and triceps does the work. Rather than buying a flat bench, an incline bench and a decline bench, an operator buys one adjustable unit and lets the user set the position. On a floor where space is the binding constraint — hotel gyms, corporate facilities, residential schemes — that is often the difference between offering a full upper-body programme and offering half of one.

What to check before ordering

Two points matter in a commercial setting. First, the adjustment mechanism is the only wearing part on the bench and should be included in the periodic maintenance schedule. Second, the 82.5 cm width is greater than that of a flat bench, so a row of adjustable benches needs more linear metres than the same number of fixed ones — check this against the layout drawing before settling the quantity.

Ordering alongside a rack

An adjustable bench is rarely bought on its own. In practice it is ordered with a rack or a Smith machine, because barbell pressing at an incline needs uprights set to the chosen angle. When the two arrive together the uprights can be checked against the bench height at commissioning, which avoids the common outcome of a bench that is technically compatible but awkward to use with the rack already on site. Does it work with a rack?
