Description
The TRAINER rudder for people with reduced mobility is an outdoor fitness station used directly from a wheelchair, reproducing a pedalling and side stepping movement. The published description gives the muscle groups worked as the legs, the hips and the lower back, and the station is designed so that a user exercises outdoors in complete autonomy without leaving their chair.
The frame is high quality steel, shot blasted and galvanised, with a double coat of polyester paint that carries the colour and the weather resistance. Seat and contact elements are high density polyethylene panels, a material chosen because it is unaffected by humidity and ultraviolet exposure and stays comfortable in cold weather, unlike bare metal.
Overall dimensions are 470 x 650 x 2020 mm, the recommended safety zone is 355 x 365 cm, maximum user weight is 150 kg and the difficulty is rated easy. The station is certified to EN 16630:2015-06 and tested by TUV Rheinland.

Specifying accessible outdoor gym equipment
Accessible stations occupy a compact footprint, here 470 x 650 mm, but the safety zone of 355 x 365 cm is what governs the layout. It has to remain clear of benches, planting and kerbs, and it has to be surfaced so that a wheelchair crosses it without effort.
The equipment is intended for urban parks, municipal fitness areas and accessible sports circuits. In practice it is also specified by rehabilitation centres and residential care facilities that want outdoor activity for residents without the constraints of a gym.
