Description
The TRAINER wheels and rudder station combines two complementary rotary movements that strengthen and stretch the scapular girdle, the chest, the forearms and the arms. It is designed for wheelchair users and for people with reduced mobility, who work the upper limbs without leaving their chair, and it improves suppleness and joint range rather than building maximal strength.
The structure is high quality steel, shot blasted then galvanised, and finished with a double coat of polyester paint for resistance to ultraviolet exposure and corrosion. The handles are ergonomic and intended for prolonged outdoor use. The station is certified to EN 16630:2015-06, the European standard for permanently installed outdoor fitness equipment, tested and certified by TUV Rheinland.
Overall dimensions are 885 x 1000 x 1700 mm for a weight of 50 kg, the recommended safety zone is 400 x 400 cm, maximum user weight is 150 kg and the difficulty level is rated easy. Four standard colour schemes are available, with other colours on quotation.

Approach and surfacing for accessible stations
An accessible station only works if the approach works. The 400 x 400 cm safety zone has to be surfaced with a firm, level material a wheelchair can cross, which in practice means bonded rubber, rubber tiles or a compacted stabilised surface rather than bark, sand or grass. The route from the car park or the path to the station needs the same treatment.
Municipalities that install a single accessible station rarely see it used. A group of three or four, covering upper limb mobility, pushing and pulling, creates a circuit that a user can complete, and that is when an inclusive fitness area starts to be visited regularly.
Frequently asked questions
Is the station usable without transferring out of a wheelchair?
Yes. The two rotary handles are positioned for use from the chair, which is the purpose of the design.
What surface is needed around the station?
A firm, level and non slip surface across the full 400 x 400 cm safety zone, continuous with the access route.
Which standard applies?
EN 16630:2015-06 for permanently installed outdoor fitness equipment, with testing and certification by TUV Rheinland.
