Description
The TRAINER wheelchair accessible basketball hoop is an outdoor fitness station that lets wheelchair users play basketball within an inclusive open air gym. Shooting at the hoop mobilises the whole upper body, building strength in the arms, shoulders and back while raising cardiorespiratory demand. The station is rated easy on the TRAINER difficulty scale, which makes it a natural entry point for first time users, mixed ability groups and rehabilitation sessions.
The structure is high grade steel, shot blasted then galvanised and finished with a double coat of polyester paint, so it withstands permanent outdoor exposure in municipal parks and coastal sites. The backboard and ring are specified for intensive public use. The unit is certified to EN 16630:2015-06 for permanently installed outdoor fitness equipment, tested by TUV Rheinland.

Site planning for inclusive outdoor gyms
The declared safety zone of 440 x 390 cm is the minimum obstacle free area required around the station and must be respected when positioning it against paths, benches, planting or other equipment. For an inclusive installation, the approach to the hoop should be a firm, level and continuous surface so a wheelchair can reach the shooting position without a step or a loose gravel margin. Bonded rubber, resin bound gravel or a cast in situ safety surface all meet that requirement; grass or bark do not.
The station works well as the social focal point of a wheelchair accessible circuit, paired with upper body pull, rotation and press stations so a full session can be built without transfer out of the chair. Municipalities frequently combine it with a shaded seating area, since queueing and turn taking are part of the appeal. Foundation design, drainage and anchoring depend on the ground conditions, so a site survey is advisable before ordering.
Frequently asked questions
Can non wheelchair users play on it?
Yes. The hoop height and the recommended user height under 140 cm are set for seated play, which also makes the station usable by children and by standing adults who want a low impact upper body exercise. It is designed for shared use in a public park rather than for regulation basketball.
Does it need a specific ground surface?
Anchoring is into a concrete foundation sized to the ground conditions. The surrounding safety zone should be an accessible, impact appropriate surface. We can specify the surfacing and foundation detail as part of the project study.
Who installs and maintains it?
Light In Fitness has supplied outdoor fitness equipment from Tours since 2013 and can quote supply only or supply and installation. Steel structures carry a 20 year warranty; annual inspection of anchors, fixings and the paint film keeps EN 16630 compliance in place.
