Description
The TRAINER pec deck with pylon is a mixed ability outdoor fitness station usable by wheelchair users and standing users alike, thanks to a folding seat mechanism. The movement develops the upper body, strengthening the scapular girdle and shoulders as well as the posterior thoracic region and the back muscles. Folding the seat away opens the station to a wheelchair, which is what allows a single unit to serve an entire population rather than requiring a separate accessible station alongside.
The structure is high quality steel, shot blasted, hot dip galvanised and finished with a double coat of polyester paint. The seat is high density HDPE panel, a material that stays comfortable in sun and frost and does not splinter. The station weighs 47 kg, with a further 50 kg for the mounting pylon included in the supply. It is certified to EN 16630:2015-06, tested by TUV Rheinland.

Designing a mixed ability outdoor fitness area
Stations that serve both standing and seated users change how an outdoor fitness area is designed. Instead of an accessible annexe placed to one side, the equipment sits in a single circuit that everyone uses, which is both better practice and easier to justify to funding bodies. The condition is that the approach works: the path to the station must be firm, level and continuous, with no step, no kerb and no loose gravel margin, and there must be room for a wheelchair to turn and align with the seat position once folded.
The recommended safety zone of 373 x 405 cm must remain clear of paths, planting, seating and adjacent apparatus. Impact attenuating surfacing is dimensioned to the free fall height under EN 1177, and the pylon is anchored into a concrete foundation sized to the ground conditions. Urban parks and municipal fitness areas are the typical settings, often alongside other TRAINER stations to form a full circuit.
Frequently asked questions
How does the folding seat work?
The seat folds out of the working area so a wheelchair user can position directly at the handles, and folds back down for a standing user. No tools are needed, which is essential for an unsupervised public installation.
Is the pylon included?
Yes. The 50 kg mounting pylon is supplied with the station. Foundation design and anchoring are specified against the ground conditions at survey stage.
What maintenance does it need?
Annual inspection of the anchors, fixings, seat panels and paint film keeps EN 16630 compliance in place. Steel structures carry a 20 year warranty and wear parts remain available after the sale.
