Description

Rope play configuration no. 11 sets three rope climbing pyramids of different sizes in a row, joined by two transition walkways, across 15.4 x 14.5 m. The free height of fall is 1.0 m — unusually low for a three-pyramid layout, and the reason this configuration lands in projects where the surfacing budget would otherwise rule it out.

Graded difficulty in a single line

Three pyramids of different sizes, connected end to end, produce a natural progression. A child starts on the smallest, crosses a walkway to the middle one, and works up to the largest. Nothing needs to be explained or signposted: the sequence does the teaching, and children self-select the level they are ready for.

  • Three rope climbing pyramids of differing sizes
  • Two transition walkways linking the structures

Continuous route, contained plot

Linked pyramids mean children traverse the whole installation without touching the ground, which produces long, uninterrupted play sessions. At 15.4 x 14.5 m the whole thing still fits an intermediate site — a village recreation ground, a mid-size campsite, a large school field — rather than requiring a district park.

Materials and groundworks

Hot-dip galvanised steel, standard finish, on foundations at 0.7 m depth. The shallower foundation depth is a direct consequence of the lower structure and shortens both the excavation programme and the spoil disposal.

Surfacing

Impact-attenuating surfacing is required under the fall zone. It must be tested to EN 1177 for the critical fall height concerned. The equipment itself is certified to PN EN 1176-1:2017 by an independent certification body; EN 1176-1 covers the equipment and EN 1177 covers the surface. The safety area for this layout is issued with the siting drawing (EN 1176-1).

Frequently asked questions

Why does a low fall height matter so much to the budget?

Because the cost of impact-attenuating surfacing rises steeply with critical fall height. A 1.0 m requirement is a fundamentally cheaper specification than a 3.0 m one over the same area, and on a large plot that difference can exceed the cost of the equipment itself.

Can the three pyramids be spaced further apart?

The walkway lengths are fixed, so spacing is not adjustable. Where a longer run is needed, a different layout in the series is the right starting point.

Do all three pyramids suit the same age range?

The declared range is 5 to 14 for the whole configuration. The differences between the three are about challenge, not certification — the smallest is where younger children in the range settle.

Send us the plot dimensions and your surfacing intentions and we will return a costed proposal with a scaled siting drawing within 24 business hours.
