Description
The Gold SPG008 assisted pull-up and dip station carries the largest stack in the Ellipse range, 115 kg, on a 290 kg frame standing 2,195 mm tall. Footprint is 1,485 x 1,165 mm and maximum user weight is 180 kg.
Counterweight assistance, not resistance
This is the one station in the range where the stack works in the opposite direction. Instead of adding load, the selected weight counterbalances part of the member body weight through a kneeling or standing platform, so a member who cannot perform a single pull-up can complete a full set with correct technique. That is why the stack is 115 kg rather than 102 kg: the assistance has to scale up to cover heavier members.

Progression pathway for a club
The commercial value of an assisted station is that it creates a visible progression. A member starting at 50 kg of assistance and reducing by 5 kg every few weeks has a measurable goal, and the first unassisted pull-up is a retention event. Clubs that run a pull-up progression as a member challenge typically build it around this station because the numbers are objective and easy to record.
Two exercises, one floor position
Pull-up and dip are the two most useful bodyweight upper-body movements, and both are inaccessible to a large part of a general membership. Covering them on one 1,485 x 1,165 mm frame is efficient use of floor area compared with a fixed bar and a separate dip station, neither of which would be usable by the members who need them most. Frequently asked questions
How is the assistance level chosen?
More weight selected means more assistance, which is the opposite of every other machine on the floor and the single point that confuses new members. State it explicitly in the induction and in any signage next to the station.
Can a 180 kg member use it?
The station is rated to 180 kg. With 115 kg of assistance available, a heavier member still performs a meaningful portion of the movement, and the assistance is reduced as strength develops.
Does it replace a fixed pull-up bar?
Not for members who already train unassisted, who generally prefer a bar or a rig. It serves the members who cannot yet use one. Facilities with both usually see the assisted station used more heavily.
