Description
The Gold SPG018 combines hip abduction and adduction in one station: a 102 kg selectorised stack, a 268 kg frame and a narrow 830 mm depth, with a 1,640 mm working width. Maximum user weight is 180 kg.
Two movements, one floor position
Specifying separate abductor and adductor machines costs two machine prices and roughly five square metres of floor. The SPG018 covers both patterns on a single frame by reversing the leg pads, which is why it is the standard choice in facilities under 300 square metres. The trade-off is queueing: one member using it for both movements occupies the station for twice as long, so it is worth positioning where a queue does not block a walkway.
- Seated hip abduction and adduction on one frame
- 102 kg pin-selected stack
- 830 mm depth, the shallowest station in the Ellipse range, 1,640 mm across the leg pads
- 268 kg machine weight, 1,650 mm height
- Maximum user weight 180 kg
Why the narrow depth matters
At 830 mm front to back, the SPG018 fits against a wall in positions where no other machine in the range will go. In small club layouts it is often the station that unlocks a workable circuit, placed along a corridor edge or in a recess. The 1,640 mm working width has to be kept clear laterally, but there is no requirement for depth clearance beyond entry access.
Programming and populations
Hip abduction and adduction are used for lateral hip strength, for post-operative hip and knee protocols, and as accessory work in glute-focused programmes. In practice the station is used heavily by two groups that rarely overlap: members following a rehabilitation prescription, and members training the hip for aesthetic goals. Both are well served by a 102 kg stack in 5 kg increments.

Frequently asked questions
How is the machine switched between abduction and adduction?
The leg pads and start position are reset by the user between the two movements. It is a manual change with no tools, but it does add time to the set, which is the reason some larger clubs still prefer two dedicated machines.
Is the starting range adjustable?
Start position is set before the movement so the range can be shortened for members with limited hip mobility or under a rehabilitation protocol. Confirm the exact number of start positions on the delivered configuration at quotation stage.
Can it be installed against a wall?
Yes, and that is its main layout advantage. Leave enough space behind for stack maintenance access, typically 400 to 500 mm, or plan to pull the machine forward when servicing.
