Description

The Gold SPG019 is a selectorised seated calf machine built around a 90 kg weight stack and a 240 kg steel chassis. It loads plantar flexion with the knee flexed, a position that shifts emphasis from the gastrocnemius towards the soleus and takes the spine out of the movement entirely. The unit occupies 184 x 78 cm for an overall height of 165 cm and accepts users up to 180 kg. Light In Fitness supplies the Gold selectorised range to commercial gyms, hotels, clubs and public sport facilities across France from its base in Tours.

What the seated position changes

The calf complex has two working parts. The gastrocnemius crosses the knee and is best loaded with the leg straight; the soleus sits underneath it and only takes real load once the knee is bent to roughly ninety degrees. A seated calf machine holds that flexed angle for you, which is why it belongs alongside a standing calf station rather than replacing it. For running clubs, rehabilitation rooms and any gym serving field sport athletes, the soleus is the part most often under trained and most often implicated in Achilles complaints.

  • Padded thigh restraint transfers the stack load through the knees, not the spine
  • Fixed foot platform with the forefoot forward so the heel can drop below the toes for full range
  • Selector pin stack in 5 kg increments up to 90 kg for fine progression
  • Seated entry and exit, usable by members who cannot load a standing calf machine
  • Self supporting 240 kg frame, no wall fixing or bolting down

Planning the installation

Allow the 184 x 78 cm base plus a clear access corridor on the entry side, so a working allocation of around 3 m2 is realistic in a layout plan. Overall height of 165 cm means no ceiling constraint in a standard fitness room. The combined mass of frame and stack is 330 kg concentrated on a small base, so on a suspended floor or an upper storey the point load should be checked before delivery, and a rubber tile or mat underneath will protect the screed and cut plate noise.

Routine maintenance is short: check the selector pin seats fully, inspect the cable and pulley wheels for fraying or flat spots, keep the guide rods clean and lightly lubricated, and wipe upholstery with a neutral cleaner. Guide rods and cables are the wear parts on any selectorised machine and are the items to keep in a spare parts stock for a busy floor.

Frequently asked questions

Does the SPG019 replace a standing calf machine?

No, the two are complementary. The seated position biases the soleus while a standing raise or a calf press on a leg press biases the gastrocnemius. A complete lower limb area normally carries one of each, or pairs the SPG019 with a leg press used for calf presses.

Is 90 kg enough load for trained users?

For most members it is, because the seated calf raise is a short range single joint movement performed at high repetitions. Advanced users typically reach the top of the stack, at which point sets are progressed with tempo, pauses at full stretch and single leg work rather than more load.

Can the machine be used by people with limited mobility?

Seated access and a stable padded restraint make it easier to supervise than a standing station, and it is regularly specified for rehabilitation and senior fitness rooms. It is not certified as inclusive equipment, so any clinical use should be validated by the practitioner responsible for the programme.
