Description
The Gold SPG012 back extension machine loads lumbar extension from an 80 kg selectorised stack. The frame weighs 260 kg, occupies 1,045 x 1,334 mm and accepts users up to 180 kg.
Loading the lumbar extensors under control
Most gyms handle lower-back work with a 45-degree hyperextension bench, where the only progression available is holding a plate to the chest. The SPG012 replaces that with a seated extension against a pin-selected stack: the pelvis is fixed, the movement occurs at the lumbar spine and thoracolumbar region, and the load is a number rather than a guess. For any facility that documents member programmes, that difference is the reason to specify a machine rather than a bench.
- Seated lumbar extension with pelvic restraint
- 80 kg pin-selected stack, matched to the SPG011 abdominal station
- 1,045 x 1,334 mm footprint, 1,650 mm height
- 260 kg machine weight, maximum user weight 180 kg
- Free-standing, no anchoring required on a suitable floor
Health-referral and occupational settings
Lower-back conditioning is a standard component of occupational health programmes for manual-handling roles and of health-referral schemes run with local authorities. A machine that restrains the pelvis and applies a repeatable load is what makes those programmes auditable. Clubs working with clinicians should agree the permitted range and starting load in the referral protocol rather than leaving it to the member.
Pairing with the trunk group
Installed next to the SPG011 abdominal crunch and the SPG013 rotary torso, the SPG012 completes a trunk block that trains flexion, extension and rotation with a consistent interface and matching stack sizes. Total footprint for the three stations is modest, and grouping them keeps trunk training visible and supervisable.

Frequently asked questions
Is it safe for members with existing lower-back pain?
A guided, restrained extension is generally better tolerated than a free hyperextension bench, but any member under medical follow-up should train to a clinician-agreed protocol. The value of the machine is that the protocol can specify an exact load and range.
How does it differ from a hyperextension bench?
The bench uses body weight plus any hand-held plate and depends on the user holding position. The SPG012 applies stack resistance with the pelvis fixed, so load is measurable and progression is incremental.
What is the routine maintenance schedule?
Monthly: cable and fitting inspection, guide rod cleaning, upholstery check, pelvic restraint mechanism check. Annually: full cable inspection with replacement as required, and a torque check on frame fasteners.
