Description

DANAKIL sits in the middle of the Desert range, and that is its argument. At 10.5 by 8.9 m and 4.3 m high it offers a genuine multi-level rope network — linked platforms, varied climbing and crossing zones, several routes through — on a plot that a typical municipality, school or campsite can actually clear. Most projects that start by admiring the largest structures in a catalogue end up specifying something of this size, and it is worth arriving there deliberately.

Getting the scale right

  • Roughly square in plan, so it works as a central feature rather than needing a long axis to sit along.
  • Multi-level net network with linked raised platforms: the play type is the same as the largest models, at a quarter of the ground take of a flagship structure.
  • Foundations at only 0.6 m depth, which limits excavation cost and avoids most buried services.
  • Impact area of 13.6 by 12.5 m — around 170 m2 of surfacing, a figure most play area budgets can absorb.

Materials and construction

Structural posts are stainless steel. The ropes are 18 mm polyamide with a braided galvanised steel core, cut-resistant and UV-stable, assembled with aluminium and stainless steel connectors. Decorative elements are impact and weather resistant HPL panel, and the structure sits on high-strength concrete foundations. The material specification is identical to the largest structures in the range: choosing a mid-size model reduces the scale, not the build quality.

Siting and surfacing

Allow 13.6 by 12.5 m of impact area, surfaced to suit a free height of fall of 2.8 m. Compare that requirement against your existing surface before assuming a straight swap for an older item. The range is shown under Diamond Collection play structures.

Frequently asked questions

How do we decide between this and a larger structure?

Work backwards from the impact area you can clear and the surfacing budget, not from the equipment. If 13.6 by 12.5 m is comfortable and a larger footprint would be tight, DANAKIL is the right answer; a flagship structure squeezed onto an inadequate plot fails its post-installation inspection.

Can it be combined with other items in the same play area?

Yes, provided impact areas do not conflict. A common layout places DANAKIL as the central climbing item with swings and spring riders around it, each with its own clear area.

What is the expected service life?

Stainless posts and steel-cored rope are specified for decades of open-access use. Ropes, connectors and HPL panels are consumable over that period and are replaced individually, which is why the parts list matters more than the warranty.

Tell us the area you can clear and the surfacing you have, and we will confirm the fit and return a costed proposal covering equipment, foundations, installation and the compliance file within 24 business hours.
