Standing changes the exercise

The classic hip thrust is performed lying against a bench with a loaded bar across the hips. It works, and it is slow: the bar has to be loaded, rolled, padded and positioned, and the whole sequence has to be repeated by every user.

The standing version resolves both problems at once. Hip extension happens through a more natural path, with maximum glute contraction at the end of the movement, and setting up takes seconds instead of minutes. On a busy floor that difference decides whether a glute station is used through the day or only when the room is quiet.

The standing position also recruits the stabilising muscles and gives better lumbar comfort than the horizontal set up, which widens the range of members who can use it.
