Description
The Bodytone SRX71 reverse hyper is a plate-loaded posterior chain machine taking up to 150 kg on Olympic plate supports, built on 100 x 50 mm and 75 x 50 mm robot-welded profile in 3 mm wall thickness, running on UCP205 precision bearings and 25 mm diameter shafts. Light In Fitness supplies it at 962.50 EUR excluding VAT.
Loading the glutes and hamstrings without loading the spine
On a conventional back extension the torso moves and the legs are fixed, so the lumbar spine takes a compressive load at exactly the point where it is least able to. The reverse hyper inverts the arrangement: the torso is fixed on the pad and the legs swing, which loads the glutes and hamstrings through a long pendulum arc while the hanging bodyweight applies traction rather than compression to the lumbar vertebrae. That single mechanical difference is why the machine appears in strength and conditioning facilities that would otherwise never buy an isolation station.
- Isolates the glutes and hamstrings through a pendulum movement
- Applies traction rather than axial compression to the lumbar spine
- Plate loaded to a maximum of 150 kg on Olympic supports
- UCP205 precision bearings and 25 mm shafts for silent, even travel
- Compact D-shaped base for stability in a small footprint
Construction
The frame uses 100 x 50 mm and 75 x 50 mm sections in 3 mm wall thickness, robot welded for a consistent weld profile that hand welding on a production line does not reliably produce. The pendulum runs on UCP205 bearings with 25 mm shafts, which is what keeps the movement quiet and even at full load rather than developing the knock that lighter bearing assemblies acquire. Upholstery is high-density pebbled covering over antibacterial EVA foam, specified for sweat and wear resistance in shared commercial use.
Where it belongs on a floor plan
Strength and conditioning centres, powerlifting and cross-training facilities, and commercial clubs with a serious free-weight membership. The compact D-shaped base means it fits into a corner of a lifting area rather than needing a dedicated bay, which is usually what decides whether a specialist machine of this kind gets specified at all. Plates are not included; the supports are positioned for fast loading between sets.

Frequently asked questions
How does it differ from a standard back extension?
On a back extension the torso moves against fixed legs; on the reverse hyper the torso is fixed and the legs move. The result is that the glutes and hamstrings are loaded without the spinal compression that the classic movement produces, which is why the two are programmed for different purposes rather than substituted for each other.
Can it be used in a rehabilitation setting?
It is widely used to strengthen the posterior chain without axial compressive loading, which is why physical preparation staff specify it. It is fitness equipment, not a medical device, and any use within a rehabilitation protocol is a decision for the supervising clinician.
How much load does a facility actually need?
The ceiling is 150 kg, but the movement is performed at moderate loads and controlled speed by most users, so a 60 to 100 kg plate allocation covers a commercial floor. The machine is more often limited by hip position and pad setup than by available weight.
