Description
The Solid Rock SRX56 is a plate loaded standing hip abductor rated for 250 kg, built on a 3 mm carbon steel frame with 100 x 50 mm and 70 x 50 mm tube sections. Working the abduction standing rather than seated means the hip is loaded in the position it actually works in during walking and running: on one leg, with the pelvis held level by the gluteus medius on the standing side. That is a different task from a seated abductor, and it is the reason the standing format has become standard in glute focused training areas.

Standing versus seated abduction
A seated abductor opens both legs against a shared load with the pelvis fixed by the seat. It builds the abductors, but it removes the stabilising role of the standing leg entirely. The SRX56 loads one hip at a time while the other leg supports the body, so the working side performs abduction and the supporting side performs the anti drop stabilisation that the gluteus medius exists for. The lateral handles are there to stabilise the trunk, not to help lift, and an induction should say so.
- Unilateral standing abduction for the gluteus medius and minimus
- 250 kg capacity on standard Olympic plates
- 6205 precision bearings for a smooth, friction free arc
- Ergonomic side handles to isolate the hip without trunk compensation
- D shaped base, compact and stable on a busy floor
Placement in a lower body area
The SRX56 belongs in the glute zone rather than in a general leg row: next to a glute machine, a hip thrust station or a cable column used for kickbacks. Because the user stands, allow lateral clearance on the working side for the leg to travel through its full arc without reaching a neighbouring machine or a circulation route.
Loading frequency is high and increments are small, so keep 1.25, 2.5 and 5 kg plates on a tree within reach. Maintenance covers the 6205 bearings, the pivot axles, the plate horns and the upholstery. Plate loaded construction means no cables and no stack shroud, which keeps servicing costs low over the life of the machine.
Frequently asked questions
Which muscles does it target?
Principally the gluteus medius and minimus on the working side, with the tensor fasciae latae assisting. The standing leg works isometrically to keep the pelvis level, which is part of the training effect.
Is it suitable for rehabilitation?
Hip abductor strength is a routine target in lower limb rehabilitation, and a standing station reproduces the functional demand more closely than a seated one. Clinical use should be validated by the practitioner responsible for the programme.
Are plates included?
No. The SRX56 is plate loaded and quoted without weights, so an existing Olympic plate stock can be used. Plates and a storage tree are priced separately.
