How is an asymmetry actually measured on this machine?

Load each side separately and work to a fixed repetition target, then compare the load each side completes with equal control. A gap of more than about 10 per cent is worth addressing with unilateral accessory work before adding load bilaterally.

What does the converging path do for the shoulder?

The handles travel inwards as they travel forwards, following the natural arc of the humerus rather than a fixed straight line. That reduces the end-range shoulder position that causes discomfort on straight-track presses.
