Description
Andromeda is a linear rope assembly: six steel posts carrying five suspended modules along an 11.8 m run that is only 4.4 m deep. The proportions are the point — the unit reads as a play street rather than a play tower, and it fits the long, narrow residual spaces that most park layouts leave over.
A linear circuit rather than a tower
Because the modules are strung end to end, children move laterally instead of vertically. Each bay presents a different balance or climbing problem, and the transition between bays is where the coordination work happens. For supervisors the layout is easy to read: the whole run is visible from either end, with no enclosed volume in the middle.
Specification highlights
- Six steel posts, 168.3 mm diameter, protected by hot-dip galvanising.
- Five suspended modules covering balance, traverse and climbing.
- Rope in braided and bonded polyamide, 18 mm diameter, reinforced with galvanised steel strands.
- Aluminium and stainless steel connectors; the posts remain galvanised steel.
- Reinforced concrete foundations at 1.0 m depth.
Siting
Andromeda occupies 11.8 x 4.4 m and needs a minimum safety area of 16.9 x 8.3 m. The extra depth on the short axis is what most sites underestimate: a run that fits neatly beside a footpath will still need roughly two metres of surfaced clearance on each side. The overall height is 3.7 m and the free height of fall is 2.85 m.
Compliance and surfacing
The equipment is certified to EN 1176-1:2017 by an independent certification body. EN 1176-1 sets the general safety requirements for the equipment; it does not specify the ground. Impact-attenuating surfacing is tested and rated under EN 1177, and here it must achieve a critical fall height of at least 2.85 m across the full safety area.

Frequently asked questions
Can Andromeda be shortened to fit a smaller run?
Not as a variation of this reference. The six-post, five-module layout is a certified assembly. A shorter run means a different product in the range, and we will propose the closest match against your dimensions.
What does bonded polyamide rope mean in practice?
The outer braid is heat-bonded so that individual filaments cannot be picked loose. It slows fraying at the points children grip most, which is where wear normally shows first.
Is a fence required around the safety area?
Not by the equipment standard. Fencing is a site decision driven by traffic, dogs or supervision policy, and any fence must sit outside the safety area, not within it.
