Description
Orpheus is a circular climbing tower. Six galvanised steel posts stand on a three-metre-radius circle and converge on a common galvanised head, meeting at 124 degrees at a height of 3 m. Inside that cone sits a variable-geometry net, climbing walls and rope ladders, with six rope seats suspended in the upper section.
A tower that rewards route-finding
The circular plan means there is no front and no back. A child can start anywhere on the perimeter, and the varying mesh density of the central net makes some routes easy and others deliberately awkward. The seats at the top are the destination: reaching them requires a sustained climb rather than a few steps, and they give the small group who get there somewhere to stay.

Orpheus occupies 6.3 x 5.5 m and stands 5.7 m tall, with a free height of fall of 2.85 m. The minimum safety area is 10.7 x 9.8 m and foundations are 1.0 m deep. The equipment is certified to EN 1176-1:2017 by an independent certification body; EN 1176-1 sets out the general safety requirements for playground equipment. The impact-attenuating surface beneath the tower is a separate specification and is tested and rated under EN 1177, to a critical fall height of at least 2.85 m across the whole safety area.
