Description
Vulcepula is organised as three climbing units linked into one continuous structure, carried on ten posts with seventeen suspended net modules and integrated slides. Across 30.8 x 23.8 m and rising to 5.7 m, it lets a designer do something a single unit cannot: zone the play area by ability while keeping it visually and physically connected.
Zoning without separating
- Three interconnected rope climbing units
- Ten bearing posts and seventeen suspended net modules
- Slides and descent elements faced with animal-themed HPL panels
- Continuous routes between units, so children progress rather than switch equipment
Separate pieces of equipment force a child to leave one and cross open ground to reach another, which is where supervision fails on large sites. Linking the units keeps the whole cohort inside one defined play envelope while still offering easier and harder zones.
Surfacing and site
The landing area must be finished with an impact-attenuating surface appropriate to the 2.85 m free height of fall, tested to EN 1177, across the full 34.8 x 28.3 m reserved zone. Foundations are cast at 1.0 m depth. At this scale the surfacing is a major cost line and should be tendered with the equipment rather than separately.
Materials
Hot-dip galvanised steel structure, nets in braided polyamide rope reinforced with a zinc-plated steel core, animal-themed HPL decorative panels.

Frequently asked questions
What does EN 1177 cover that EN 1176 does not?
EN 1176 governs the equipment; EN 1177 governs the impact-attenuating surfacing beneath it, setting out how the critical fall height of a surface is determined by test. Both are needed for a compliant installation, and only the surfacing standard depends on your chosen material and depth.
Can the three units be installed in phases?
The design is supplied and certified as one assembly, so it is installed as a whole. Where budget has to be phased, a smaller structure now with a second unit later is usually the more practical route.
How does Vulcepula compare with Aquila?
Aquila is larger again at 39.9 x 39.3 m and 7.2 m high. Vulcepula gives a comparable multi-unit concept on roughly two thirds of the reserved area.
