Description
MAKEMAKE is a two-bay swing frame built for sites where the swings are never empty: school playgrounds, campsites, large housing schemes and seaside resorts. The 5.0 m stainless steel beam carries two HDPE seats side by side, and the whole frame is specified in stainless steel rather than painted steel because these are the items that take the most punishment and the most complaints when they start to rust.
Built for high-traffic sites
- Two seats on a single 5.0 m frame, doubling throughput without doubling the number of foundations or the inspection burden.
- Main structure in stainless steel tube of 108.0 mm diameter, sized for continuous public use rather than occasional family use.
- UV-resistant HDPE seats that keep their colour and do not become brittle after a few seasons outdoors.
- End buffers on the beam prevent abrupt shocks at the extremes of travel.
- Stainless or corrosion-resistant connectors throughout, which is what makes the frame suitable for coastal and chlorinated-atmosphere sites.
Materials and finish
The frame is high-grade stainless steel, left unpainted. There is no coating to chip, no repainting cycle and no rust bleed onto the surfacing below, which is the practical argument for stainless on a swing frame: the maintenance budget over fifteen years, not the purchase price. Handles are stainless steel tube of 21.3 mm diameter and the seats are moulded HDPE.
Siting and safety area
Allow a minimum impact area of 7.5 by 2.5 m, measured along the swing axis. The free height of fall is 1.5 m and the surfacing across that area must be tested accordingly. Foundations are concrete pads 0.5 m deep, which is shallow enough for most urban sites without deep services diversion.

Frequently asked questions
Is stainless steel worth the difference on a swing frame?
On inland sites with low vandalism, galvanised and powder-coated steel performs well. On coastal, poolside or heavily used sites, stainless removes the recoating cycle entirely and keeps the frame presentable for the life of the asset. We can quote both for comparison.
Can the seats be changed to cradle seats for toddlers?
Yes. The frame accepts flat HDPE seats or enclosed cradle seats, and mixed configurations are common where a single frame serves a wide age range. Specify the mix when you request your quotation.
What is the inspection routine?
Routine visual checks on seat fixings, suspension bearings and buffers, a functional inspection each quarter and an annual main inspection. The stainless frame itself needs only cleaning.
Tell us how many seats you need, the age profile of your users and the surfacing already in place, and we will return a costed proposal covering the frame, seats, foundations and installation.
