Description
A nest swing changes who can join in. Instead of one child per seat, a 1.0 m woven ring carries two or three together, lying back or sitting facing each other, and a child who cannot hold a chain unaided can still swing alongside friends. This version sits on a stainless steel frame of the same family as our single and double swings, so it can be added to an existing bay without introducing a second set of spare parts.
Play value and inclusion
- Spider-web weave across a 1.0 m steel ring: a supportive, enveloping surface rather than a hard seat.
- Slow, wide motion that suits children who find fast swinging overwhelming, and works equally well for a group wanting momentum.
- Rope in zinc-coated steel sheathed in polypropylene, so hands grip a warm surface and never bare wire.
- A genuinely shared item, which is why nest swings are a standard recommendation in inclusive playground design.
Materials and construction
- Load-bearing frame in stainless steel tube, 76.1 mm diameter.
- Connectors, chains and suspensions in stainless steel.
- Maintenance-free bearings in the suspension points.
- Protective plastic end caps.
- Concrete pad foundations, 0.6 m deep.
The frame is uncoated stainless steel. There is no paint system to blister and no rust bleed onto the surfacing below, which matters on a nest swing because the ring passes low over the ground on every cycle.
Siting and safety area
Overall dimensions are 3.7 by 2.0 m with a height of 2.2 m. The minimum impact area is 2.25 by 7.3 m, measured along the swing axis, and the free height of fall is 1.3 m, so the surfacing across that area must be tested for that fall height. Foundations are concrete pads 0.6 m deep.

Frequently asked questions
How does a nest swing compare with a flat seat for mixed-ability groups?
A flat seat requires the child to hold on and to control their own posture. The nest supports the back and sides, so a child with limited trunk control can use it with an adult or an older child alongside. It does not replace a specialist harness seat, but it covers a much wider range of users than a standard seat.
Can this replace a seat on an existing double frame?
Not directly. A nest ring needs greater clearance and its own suspension geometry, which is why it is supplied on its own frame. Retrofits are assessed case by case against the existing frame drawings.
How is the weave maintained?
The weave is inspected at each functional inspection for cut or slackened strands and can be retensioned or partially rewoven on site. Suspension bearings are sealed and maintenance-free.
Tell us the width and length available in your play area and whether the swing will stand alone or join an existing bay, and we will return a costed proposal including foundations, installation and the compliance documentation.
