Description
MILKUS is a large-format nest swing carried by a tripod mast in hot-dip galvanised steel. The 1.15 m woven ring seats several children at once, lying down or sitting facing each other, and the long suspension produces a slow, wide swing rather than the short arc of a conventional seat. At 5.4 m high it reads as a landmark from the far side of a park, which is why it is usually specified as the centrepiece of a municipal play area rather than as an add-on.
Why a tripod nest swing
- Group play: the spider-web weave of the ring supports several users together, so children who cannot use a single seat unaided can still take part alongside their friends.
- Long suspension from a 5.4 m mast gives a gentle, sustained motion that is well tolerated by children who find fast movement overwhelming.
- The tripod geometry keeps all three legs outside the swing path, leaving the approach open on every side.
- Double-pivot stainless steel suspension lets the ring rotate as well as swing, which adds play value without adding moving parts at child height.
Materials and construction
- Tripod mast in black steel, 139.7 mm diameter, protected against corrosion by hot-dip galvanising.
- Double-pivot suspension in stainless steel.
- Seat ring of 1.15 m diameter, filled with a spider-web weave.
- Zinc-coated steel rope sheathed in polypropylene for hand comfort.
- Fixings in stainless or galvanised steel.
- Reinforced concrete pad foundations, 0.7 m deep.
Space requirements
MILKUS is a demanding item in plan: the structure itself occupies 10.7 by 9.3 m and the minimum safety area is a 12 m diameter circle. The free height of fall is 2.8 m, so that whole circle must be laid with an impact-attenuating surface tested for the fall height. Budget for the surfacing early, because on this item it is a significant share of the installed cost. Other formats are available in our playground swing sets range if the plot cannot take a 12 m circle.

Frequently asked questions
How many children can use the nest at the same time?
The woven ring is sized for group use, typically three to four children depending on age and build. The operator should set and display a sensible limit and supervise it, as with any nest swing.
Does the 12 m circle have to be entirely surfaced?
Yes. The impact area of a swinging item extends well beyond the arc of the seat, and the full circle must carry a surface tested for 2.8 m of free fall height.
What does annual maintenance involve?
The wear points are the suspension bearings and the rope where it enters the ring. Both are inspected annually and are replaceable in situ; the galvanised mast itself requires no coating maintenance.
