Description
Namaka sets its two main beams at right angles to each other, so a double swing occupies a square plot instead of a long strip. The columns are 168.3 mm S235 carbon steel tube, hot-dip galvanised, and the beams are 120 x 120 mm square section fitted with ROSTA dampers and rubber buffers.
Why the crossed layout matters
Standard swing bays force a long, narrow safety area, which is often the reason a swing cannot be fitted into an existing park corner. By turning one bay through ninety degrees, Namaka spreads the requirement into a 10.5 x 10.1 m square. On a site bounded by a path on one side and a hedge on the other, that is frequently the difference between a swing and no swing.
- Main beams in 120 x 120 mm square tube
- Columns in 168.3 mm diameter S235 carbon steel tube, hot-dip galvanised
- ROSTA dampers and rubber buffers limiting beam oscillation
- Rubber seats suspended on stainless steel chains
- Seats mounted at 2.3 m and 2.8 m
- Reinforced concrete footings

Installation
Foundations are 1.0 m deep reinforced concrete footings, deeper than the stainless steel swing frames in the range because of the beam geometry and the loads it transfers. Plan for machine excavation and confirm the position of any buried services under the four column positions before setting out.
Maintenance
The dampers are the distinctive component: they absorb the beam oscillation that would otherwise be transmitted into the columns and the foundations, and their condition should be recorded at the annual inspection. Galvanised steel needs no repainting in normal conditions. The rest follows the routine, operational and annual regime required by EN 1176.
Frequently asked questions
Why are the two seat heights different?
The 2.3 m and 2.8 m suspension heights give two different swing characteristics on one structure, so older and younger children in the 3 to 14 range each get a bay that suits them.
Is galvanised steel as durable as stainless?
Hot-dip galvanising gives long service in inland conditions and is the usual specification for heavy swing frames. In severe coastal exposure we would discuss a stainless frame from the same range instead.
Can the safety areas of the two bays overlap?
They are already designed as a single combined area of 10.5 x 10.1 m. That figure must be surfaced and kept clear in full.
