Description
Two children, one frame, and the small negotiation that goes with sharing it: the double swing is the item that generates the most use per square metre in almost every play area we equip. This version is built on a splayed-leg stainless steel frame with a top beam, a geometry that keeps the structure stable under two children swinging out of phase, which is the load case that loosens badly designed frames.
Specified for constant public use
- Two seats on one 3.7 m frame, so the busiest item in the playground does not become the queue.
- Splayed legs and a continuous top beam distribute asymmetric loads instead of concentrating them at the seat fixings.
- Seats built around a steel insert and covered in EPDM rubber: rigid enough to sit properly, soft enough to limit injury from an empty seat.
- Sealed maintenance-free bearings at every suspension point, removing the greasing routine that older swing frames demand.
- An enclosed safety seat for very young children is available as an option, so one frame can serve a mixed age group.
Materials and finish
The tubular frame is stainless steel of 76.1 mm diameter, supplied uncoated, with stainless steel connectors, chains and suspensions and weather-resistant plastic end caps. The combination of stainless steel and EPDM is chosen for sites where repainting is not realistic: coastal resorts, poolside areas, campsites that close for the winter and open with no time for refurbishment.
Siting and safety area
Overall dimensions are 3.7 by 2.0 m and 2.2 m high. The minimum impact area is 3.1 by 7.3 m and the free height of fall is 1.3 m, so the surfacing must be tested for that height across the full area. Foundations are concrete pads 0.6 m deep.

Frequently asked questions
Can one seat be a toddler cradle and the other a flat seat?
Yes, and it is the most common configuration on school and campsite sites. The two seats hang at slightly different heights; confirm the mix when you request your quotation so the suspensions are supplied to the right lengths.
How often do EPDM seats need replacing?
On a busy public site, expect the seats and chains to be the first components to reach end of life, typically well before the frame. Both are stock items and are replaced without disturbing the foundations.
Does the impact area have to be clear of paths?
Yes. No path, bench, bin or planting may sit within the 3.1 by 7.3 m impact area. This is the single most frequent non-conformity we see on inherited playgrounds, so check it against your layout before ordering.
Give us your available area, the surfacing already installed and the seat mix you want, and we will return a costed proposal covering the frame, seats, foundations, installation and the EN 1176 handover file.
