What 15 mm adds over 10 mm
Five extra millimetres change two things. First, tolerance to moderate loads: dumbbells, kettlebells and hand placed plates can touch the floor without marking the screed. Second, tolerance to the substrate: a 15 mm tile hides the small defects of an old concrete slab or of existing tiling far better. Underfoot comfort and acoustic damping also improve, without reaching what a dedicated acoustic underlay delivers.
What it does not replace
The 15 mm tile is not a strength floor. In front of a rack, under a deadlift platform or in a weightlifting zone, the specification moves up to 20 mm and then to 40 mm. Common practice is to cover the main floor in 15 mm and to treat the impact zones in 20 or 40 mm in the same colour, with the transition placed at the edge of the zone.
Zoning a floor with colour
The four colours share the format and the thickness of the black tile, which allows spaces to be separated without any floor marking: cardio in grey, group classes in blue, the functional zone in red, stretching in green, and black fine grain on circulation routes and under the machines. Installation and maintenance
The substrate must be flat, clean and dry. Tiles are laid edge to edge, loose or bonded depending on the surface and the traffic. On an upper floor, add a 10 mm shock absorbing underlay beneath the tiles for acoustic performance. Clean with warm water and a neutral detergent. Coloured tiles need cleaning more often than the black mottled reference. Work out the quantity from the area of the zone plus a cutting allowance before ordering.
If a reference is out of stock
Between colours, an adjacent shade keeps the floor continuous. For the black fine grain tile, the 15 mm black mottled version is the immediate fallback, then the 20 mm black tile if a small level difference at the edge is acceptable.

What is the difference between the black fine grain tile and the coloured tiles?
The black fine grain tile, at 22.00 EUR excluding VAT per square metre, is the standard version, rated EFL for fire. The grey, blue, red and green tiles at 23.00 EUR are there to zone a floor or to match a brand identity. The mottled black tile at 27.00 EUR hides dust and marks better.
Is 15 mm enough under a squat rack or a cage?
Yes for standing and anchoring the structure. No for the area where the bar is racked or dropped: that zone moves to 20 mm, or to 40 mm where bar drops are frequent. The usual combination is 15 mm across the floor and 20 mm in front of the racks.
Why is the 15 mm tile the best seller?
Because it covers the majority of a fitness floor: machines, dumbbells, group classes and circulation, at a price close to the 10 mm tile and with a tolerance to moderate loads that the 10 mm does not have.
Can the 15 mm tile be used outdoors?
It handles covered outdoor areas such as a terrace or a canopy. For permanent open air use, choose playground tiles or poured surfaces designed for UV and frost, bonded onto a drained substrate.
What is the alternative if a colour is out of stock?
The four colours share the same 100 by 100 cm format and the same thickness, so an adjacent colour keeps the floor continuous. For the black fine grain tile, the 15 mm mottled black or the 20 mm tile are the fallbacks.
