Description

The 15 mm black rubber gym tile is Light In Fitness entry specification for shock absorbing sports flooring, supplied in a 100 x 100 cm format at 22 EUR per square metre excluding VAT. Pressed from recycled SBR granulate at 900 kg/m3 and finished with a very fine surface grain, it is classified Efl for reaction to fire under EN 13501-1 and can be installed indoors or outdoors.

At 15 mm this is the thickness specified for cardio decks, selectorised machines, indoor cycling studios, hotel and residential fitness rooms, care home activity rooms and light functional training. It protects the concrete slab, cuts impact noise and gives a firm, predictable footing, without the cost of a thickness that only heavy free weight zones actually need.

Installation and use

Indoors the tiles are laid loose, edge to edge, on a clean and level concrete slab. No adhesive is required for cardio and machine areas. Because a 15 mm tile weighs 13.5 kg rather than the 25 kg of a 25 mm unit, pay closer attention to closing the field tightly against the perimeter walls, or fit a bonded border row, so that the surface cannot creep under wheeled equipment. Outdoors, in wet rooms and over any irregular substrate, bond the tiles with a polyurethane adhesive.

Substrate flatness matters more at this thickness than at 40 mm or 60 mm, because a thin tile bridges less. Work to a tolerance of 5 mm over a 2 m straight edge and grind or level any high spots before delivery.

Where the same building also contains a free weight platform or a drop zone, do not carry the 15 mm across it. A multi zone specification, 15 mm on cardio, a thicker tile on free weights and 40 mm or more where barbells are dropped, costs less overall than covering the whole floor in a single compromise thickness and lasts significantly longer.

Maintenance is straightforward: sweep or vacuum, then wash with water and a neutral detergent. The surface is non porous and does not need sealing. Keep oils, greases and solvent based cleaners off the rubber.

Frequently asked questions

Is 15 mm enough for a weights room?

It is enough for dumbbells, fixed barbells, benches and machines used normally. It is not the right specification where loaded Olympic barbells are dropped from hip height or overhead. For that duty, move to 40 mm or a dedicated weightlifting platform build up. Using a thin tile as a drop surface transmits the impact into the slab and shortens the life of both.

Does the tile reduce noise to neighbouring rooms?

It reduces impact noise, which is the component that travels through the structure. On upper floors, or where the gym adjoins offices, hotel bedrooms or dwellings, combine the tile with an acoustic underlay; the tile on its own attenuates less than a tile plus underlay system.

Can we order a mixed pallet of thicknesses?

Yes. Mixed orders across the 15, 25, 40 and 60 mm references are standard practice on multi zone projects and are quoted line by line. Stock items ship within 5 to 10 working days, with a quotation returned within 24 working hours.
